1. Ice breaker: Fit check! What’s one of your favorite articles of clothing? Why?

2. Read the key verses: Colossians 3:12-14.
  • a. In chapter 3 Paul transitions to practical application, guiding believers in the how-to of living in our calling as chosen, holy, and dearly loved. How do verses 5-11 (from the sermon two weeks ago) contrast with verses 12-14?
  • b. What are believers taking off … what are they putting on, why?
3. Look at Isaiah 61:10 and Ephesians 6:11-17. What pictures do these verses create in your mind of “holy attire?” What “articles” or phrases resonate with you the most?

4. Clothing yourself with your new wardrobe (v. 12-14), i.e. your new self, requires taking off your old garments, i.e. your old self.
  • a. What old-self garb are you wearing (e.g. anger, shame, lust, greed, pride, envy, etc.)?
  • b. What old-self garb have you removed and found healing?
5. Henri Nouwen wrote, “We have come to believe in the voices that call us worthless and unlovable, then success, popularity, and power are easily perceived as attractive solutions to our desolate condition. Self-rejection is the greatest enemy of the spiritual life because it
contradicts the sacred voice that calls us the ‘Beloved.’” How does this speak to you?

6. Todd said, “You are a holy priesthood. Dress like it, regardless of what everyone else is wearing!” What do each of the following garments look like in everyday life? Which do you struggle with? Which has God helped you with?
a. Compassion
b. Kindness
c. Humility
d. Gentleness
e. Patience
f. Love

7. How does agape love bind these together?

8. Reflect: Close your eyes. Picture yourself standing alone with Jesus. You take off your garments of shame, anger, pride, envy, lust, and selfishness and hand them to Him. In exchange, He lovingly hands you a regal, radiant, resplendent new outfit and says, “From now on, wear this. You are chosen. You are holy. You are beloved. You are mine.”
