3 Attributes of a Spiritual Friend: 

  • Friends overcome the superficial barriers that divide them
  • Friends bear with us and forgive our failures
  • Friends fight for our faith

  1. Take a moment to reflect on the 3 attributes of a spiritual friend. Have you prioritized these attributes when making friends throughout your life?  

 

  1.  Can you think of other moments throughout the Bible where superficial barriers were overcome? Discuss a few examples (Old Testament & New Testament) 

 

  1. How can we overcome the superficial barriers in friendships in our everyday life?

 

  1. The second attribute ties into Colossians 3:12-13: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”  What does it mean to bear with and forgive in everyday friendships? 

 

  1. Take a moment to think of friends who fight for your faith. Do you consider Jesus to be a spiritual friend?
