Follow Along with the Message

Supporting verses: John 1:18, Hebrews 1:3, Gen 1:26, John 1:1-3, Col 3:17, 2 Cor. 5:17, Psalm 95:1-7

1. Even if you don’t think of yourself as an artist, everyone creates things…telling stories, creating a
welcoming home, making memories, preparing meals, building spreadsheets, planning vacations…the
possibilities are infinite! What do you love to create? How do you feel when doing this?

2. Read aloud Colossians 1:15-20

3. In these verses, Paul is sharing huge truths about Jesus that can be hard to comprehend. Reread Col
1:15-20 in a plain language translation, like The Message or NLT, to get a different look at this
passage. What “all,” “is,” or “everything” phrase resonates with you? Why?

4. As Pastor Todd said, we can lose Christianity without the correct view of Jesus. The world has lots of
opinions on who Jesus is. Who is Jesus to you? Is your view of Jesus too small? How has it changed
over time?

5. What relationships, habits, activities, ideologies, plans, projects, work, and/or goals are most important
to you? (Look at where you spend most of your time, money, and mental energy.)

a) How does your passion for and focus on these things limit, block, or conflict with Jesus (preeminence, supremacy, totality) in your life?
b) How do they magnify it or give it clarity?

6. Jesus is above “above” and beyond “beyond.” Everything has been created through him and for him.
This includes YOU! What does it mean that you and I are hardwired for Jesus…that we don’t truly
know what it is to be human unless we know Jesus, our creator?

7. Ponder this: “The genius of Christianity is that it’s not about what you have to do to find God…it’s
about God coming to earth to die on a cross and raise from the dead to find you.” How does this
speak to you?

Pray this simple prayer now and through the week: Jesus, I ask for you…the real you…to be first in my
heart.
