Follow Along with the Message

Read Colossians 1:9: “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not
stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his
will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives…”
1. Think about all the clubs, groups, businesses, and activities you’ve been involved in.
Do you think it’s easier to start something or join something? Why? Share about an
experience starting something.

2. Read Romans 8:26-27, 34. What are all the ways the trinity is involved in praying for
us?

3. How does it change your thoughts about—or challenges with—praying to know that
you’re not actually starting a prayer, you’re joining the prayer ministry of the Father,
Son, and Spirit that’s happening right now?

4. If praying sets Christians apart, why don’t Christians in the world look all that different
from other groups? What would others believe about God by peering into your prayer
life?

5. Phil said, “Jesus Christ reigns supreme! So, Christians, stop freaking out!”
a. What are you “freaking out” about? Share as you’re comfortable.
b. In what ways can you use prayer to calm your mind, settle your heart, and
refocus on Jesus?

6. Ponder this: Prayer is not something you do, it’s a privilege you are honored to be
invited into.
a. How does this inspire you? Challenge you? Or change your attitude toward
God…toward prayer…toward others?

End with prayer and pray this week: Father, Son, Holy Spirit, awaken my heart and ignite
my spirit with your passion for prayer. Help me join You in praying for what you want for
your people.
