Scripture Reference:  Isaiah 43: 15-21; Ephesians 4:22-24; Mark 2: 21-22

Read Isaiah 43:15-21

  • What word or phrase sticks out to you?
  • Read this again concentrating on what God may be saying to you

Forget the old

  • Isaiah 43:18 – “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old”
  • The Lord tells them to forget the box that we’ve placed Him in our minds based on past experiences; He is capable of so much more!

o   What are some examples where you have “boxed” in God in life? In the Bible?

  • He also tells us to forget these old ways of thinking, making room for Him

o   Read Ephesians 4: 22-24 – Paul says it

o   Read Mark 2:21-22 – Jesus says it

o   Reflect on how or if you are making room for Him to fill you with something new.

  • “Our daily choices to follow Jesus even when things are new and we don’t fully understand deepen our dependence and surrender to His plans.  It makes us submit our plans, pursuits, and very lives in the hands of the one who created us.  And we are then called to operate with an expectation that He will guide our paths according to His perfect will by the way of His spirit.”

Out with the old and in with the new way

  • Isaiah 43:19-20 – Toss out the old things and usher in the new
  • God is saying to us that He will provide completely for us in our time of wilderness hardship, yet it may not always look the way you expect it to look.
  • How can one truly perceive what the Lord is doing if we’re not spending enough time with Him, seeking His word, and being led in His ways to perceive the new things He is creating in our lives.
  • How has God moved within you and your life in new, unexpected ways?

Create a resolution for next year:

  1. Write a resolution with a new perspective of how we will be in submission to God, and accept the Holy Spirit’s invitation for silence and solitude to deepen our relationship and quality time with Jesus.
  2. Ask Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit to reveal new aspects of His character to us
  3. Ask the Lord to remove old sinful pursuits, ways of thinking, and the negative stories that we tell ourselves that ultimately put God in a box.
