Reflection

  • Allow space and time for self and group reflection on current events
  • Explore any feelings, emotions, or difficulties you are feeling – internally or externally

Read James 1:1-2

  • Consider

o   The way we choose to think about a situation

o   When trials come, we are called to look at them through the lens of God, not through the lens of our circumstances.

  • When

o   Trials are unavoidable, unpredictable, and uncomfortable

o   Offer time to discuss current, past, or future trials as a group

  • Joy

o   Explore the differences between happiness and joy

o   Joy is not the absence of grief; it is the presence of hope

  • Trials

o   Romans 5:3-5

o   Trials are not proof that God left you.  They are proof that God is with you and is transforming you.

o   Trials are not detours.  They are essential pathways to wholeness.  They produce perseverance, shaping you into someone who reflects God’s glory and lives out His purpose.

Practical application

  • How do I grow through trials?

o   Reframe the trial – ask what is God forming in me through this

o   Stay rooted in God’s Presence – remain intensely connected to Jesus

o   Let perseverance do its work – growth takes time

o   Walk with others – share your burden, don’t suffer alone

o   Look for the resurrection pattern – it is never wasted

  • How to be with someone suffering

o   Be fully present – listen more than you speak

o   Acknowledge their pain

o   Bring gentle scripture, not platitudes

o   Pray with and for them

o   Offer practical support

o   Stay with them over time
