Life Group Discussion Guides

You can add your own personal sermon notes along the way. When you're finished, you'll be able to email or download your notes.

Follow Along with the Message

  1. Take a moment and think about the different social spheres in your life. Think about how you're being influenced. What/who is influencing you the most? Do you feel good about this answer?

  1.  From the sermon, we learned we are constantly receiving messages from our family, leaders, culture, opponents, and even our minds. When these messages turn into narratives about how we see ourselves, what response is your first instinct? Introject/Internalize, Reject messages by turning away, or Differentiate by turning to and internalizing God’s Word? Why do you think that is?

  1. Go back and read 1 Samuel 17:27-29, 31-37, 42-47. David is being influenced by three different forces: Eliab, Saul, and Goliath. They also were being influenced by the culture and society around them as represented by the Israeli soldiers who cowered in fear.  Discuss how David responds to each message using the terms taught on Sunday (introject, reject, differentiate.)

  1. What can we learn from David in 1 Samuel 17? How can you apply his choices and outlook to your everyday life?

  1. We’ve talked a lot about how we are being influenced, but now consider how you are influencing others. Take a moment to think about how you might be sending positive or negative messages to people in your life. What comes to mind?
