There are many names we give to the Holy Spirit: Counselor, Advocate, Helper, Guide, and Intercessor (to name a few).

Jesus references the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Truth in John 16:13.

1. In John 16:8, Jesus says,
“When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.”

There are three things that inhibit our complete surrender to the Holy Spirit.

•The world
•The flesh
•The enemy

How does the world/the flesh/the enemy inhibit your daily surrender?

2. What habitual action(s) can you do to limit the distractions of the world and pull you closer to the Holy Spirit?

3.  There is no hope for revival without the Holy Spirit. Think back to the path that Jesus’s disciples were on prior to the day of Pentecost. It is the Holy Spirit who continues to do a work in the heart of Christ’s church. Discuss the times the Holy Spirit has revived the church.

4. 1 Corinthians 12:3 says:
“and no one can say “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit”.

Pastor Phil talked about the difference between believing and receiving.  As Christians, we believe by faith that Jesus is our Savior. Have you received the filling of the Holy Spirit that Jesus has gifted you? Are you continuously surrendering to the Spirit and allowing God to transform you?

5. 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 says:
“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.  For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body - whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free - and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.”

The world and our flesh tells us to stay in our comfortable pockets and social circles according to commonalities (demographic, socioeconomic status, race, neighborhood, political party). When you are surrendered to the Holy Spirit, He will lift the veil from your eyes and you will see people’s hearts and their needs which will draw you closer to them in unity. You will not see worldly labels that are often placed on us. You will see the only commonality that matters; the brotherhood & sisterhood in the Church of Christ.

How are you listening to the whispers of Holy Spirit in your daily life?
