Philly Restart

  • Our homeless meal numbers exploded in the early pandemic as other facilities stopped serving.  We moved all of our meals outside (we serve 2 inside at our community center),
  • Had the horror of witnessing a senseless homicide in broad daylight of a young community friend of ours who was walking by our meal tables with our guests. And despite the weather and the gun violence, we've tried to stay steady.  We open on time, we offer folks forks or spoons to eat with, simply treating others as we want to be treated.  We like dessert, we offer dessert.
  • We have some addicts, felons, mental health friends, but mostly, we've got a lot of folks hungry for a meal and community.
We tell people not to say that they came for lunch on Sundays, but to say they were at church.  And we do short devotions, and it was a church setting before we moved outside.
  • We are grateful for the continued support of the Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Philadelphia, on behalf of our community folks and kiddos, thank you.
  • We have done our best to meet the needs of our shifting landscape this year, trying to turn obstacles into opportunities.
  • There are many things that we would love to have different about the year, but we celebrate our good moments, highlighted by a new food pantry and the completion of a 15 year quest to have a new Pennsylvania law granting our homeless free PennDoT ID's.
  • We appreciate you remembering us during these years, we are praying for better days ahead.
