Follow Along with the Message

Leaders:

In preparation for the meeting, plan to use

one of the following approaches.

A.  Allow time to briefly review each chapter.

B.  Read Colossians together as a group.

C.  Ask members to reread Colossians

      before you meet.

As a group:

Remember that Matt said the ‘you’ in

the letter refers to you personally.

Discuss in general how group members

felt during the reading on Sunday.

(Relaxed, peaceful, uncomfortable,

lost in your own thoughts … )

After each chapter, discuss the prompts Matt & Brendan outlined in their reading of Colossians.

LECTIO PROMPT Chapter I

Is there a word or idea that stirred within you?

Linger over it and give it your attention.

Is there something about the reading

you’d like to ask God about?

Share your thoughts with the group.

LECTIO PROMPT Chapter II

How has God’s word moved you?

Ponder and meditate what has

connected with your heart or mind.

Share your thoughts with the group.

LECTIO PROMPT Chapter III

Remind yourself you are in God’s presence.  Notice how God might be speaking to you through his Word.

Dwell on a word or phrase that jumped

out at you.

Share your thoughts with the group.

LECTIO PROMPT Chapter IV

Find a word or phrase that catches your eye or moves your heart…share it with the group.

Among the verses that stood out to you, were there any common threads or themes across chapters 1-4?

What message does God have for his church today through this letter?

As a group, have a time of prayer to express your thoughts, desires, needs and feelings from your meditation.
