Three Guiding Questions for the message:
1. What does mighty mean, and what does it look like in our everyday experience?
2. What does Mighty God and the promise of Jesus mean in the context of Isaiah's time?
3. What does this mean for us today?

Discussion Questions

1. Hold an open discussion to converse about the times, situations or people that have caused you to feel powerless. Was there ever a time when you caused someone to feel powerless?

2. What does Mighty God really mean?
  • He has the power to accomplish his work and plan over and above any opposition
  • When it comes to power God will be with us.
  • Jesus demonstrated his might on the cross and through the resurrection

3. Isaiah specifically mentions two places Zebulun and Naphtali.  Discuss the significance of these two places in light of Isaiah 9 and Matthew 4: 13-14.

4. How did God upend the concept of power through the birth, life and death of Jesus Christ. Note: Share quote below if helpful.
“Not with power demonstrated, but as a baby. All of God united to us in our humanity. The Mighty Warrior God, who conquers the mess of humanity and the world, conquers by entering and uniting himself to the full experience of humanity and of our world.” Donald J Willeman

5. Discuss with your group what would change in their lives if we started to acknowledge Jesus by the names: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
