Throughout scripture, God frequently says “Fear not, for I am with you.” This truth is made visible through Emmanuel, God with us. The great mystery that has been revealed to us is that as believers of Christ, He now lives in us. Galatians 2:20 says “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

As a group, discuss what that verse means to you.
  1. Christ transforms us from the inside out. What are a few ways in which Jesus has radically changed you? Through this radical change, what are some ways that you have felt compelled to act as the hands and feet of Jesus? Are there aspects of your heart that you feel still need Jesus’s transformation?
  2. Read this quote from Ian Thomas that Phil shared with us on Sunday: “Beware lest even as a Christian, you fall into Satan’s trap. You may have found and come to know God and the Lord Jesus Christ, receiving Him sincerely as your Redeemer. Yet, if you do not enter into the mystery of Christ in you, the hope of glory, and live in the power of His life within you, then the devil will seek to make you stumble—by tempting you to be godly by submitting yourself to external rules and regulations and by conforming to behavior patterns imposed upon you by the particular Christian society that you have chosen and in which you hope to be found acceptable. You will, in this, perpetuate the pagan habit of practicing religion in the energy of the flesh and the very pursuit of righteousness commit adultery in honoring Christianity more than Christ.”
  3. Do you find yourself at times pursuing moral Christianity rather than pursuing a relationship with Christ? Does anyone come to mind when you think of someone who seeks an inside-out transformation from the Lord? If so, how has this influenced your life? Consider how the transformation that Jesus does for you can positively influence those around you.
  4. Jesus is living His perfect life in you. John 15: 5 says: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” Although the Christian life can be impossible, Jesus is living His perfect life in you. In what ways can you be intentional and consistent in living out the truth of Christ in you?
  5. Have you fully accepted The Great Exchange that leads to freedom? If not, do you feel compelled to send this to Jesus to transform your heart?  As believers in Jesus, Christ lives in you, and you are “sealed” with the Holy Spirit. We also live in Christ and through Him, we live in God the Father. Contemplate God’s Word in Romans 8:35- “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, or sword?
