.) John the Baptist was different than his contemporaries. He dressed differently, he spoke differently, he ate different food. Romans 12:2 states “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” In what ways are we as believers different from the world? How do we stand out? Are there ways that you conform to this world that you need to bring to the Lord?

.) In John 3:30, John the Baptist states “He must become greater; I must become less.” John’s posture was one of humility. Have there been times when pride and/or worldly conformity has interfered with you pointing people to Jesus?

.) Psalm 107: 1-2 (NLT) says “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.” How can you graciously share with non-believers your story of redemption through Jesus while being humble like John the Baptist?

.) Psalm 139: 7-10 says: “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” In what ways has God pursued you even when you had your back to Him?

.) God invites imperfect people into His story everyday. Despite your imperfections, how does your role in the Kingdom of God point others to Jesus? Discuss how God used Mark, an imperfect teenager who didn’t always get it right. Reference Romans 3:23- “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”
