Series:  Life of David

Sermon theme:  The Final Days – What are You Passing On?

Phil Carnuccio

Primary Scripture Passages:  1 Chronicles 28 and 1 Chronicles 29

  1. In 1 Chronicles 28: 1-8 we see what David decided to do and say in the final days of his life.  As you read the passage, imagine yourself in David’s shoes, with a few weeks left to live. Who would be among the “who’s who” in your life that you would hope to gather with?  What words would you like to share with them?
  2. David’s vision of building the Temple for the Lord remained an unfulfilled dream at the end of his life.  What one thing or accomplishment would you very much like to have at the end of your days?
  3. Read 1 Chronicles 28: 9-11.  As he matured and grew older, David’s perspective changed from “What is my legacy?” to “Who is my legacy?” and he did everything he could do to help Solomon accomplish what David dreamed about accomplishing. How did he do it? How did he leverage all that he had to help his son succeed?
  4. Phil imagined a picture of David sharing lessons from his life by singing his Psalms to his children and grandchildren (Psalms 23, 51 and 139 as examples).  How is your life modeling a dynamic, intimate, submitted union with Jesus to the next generation?
  5. Read 1 Chronicles 29: 1-9.  In what ways does David leverage his influence to create a culture of contagious and joyful generosity?
  6. Based on which generation you identify with (“younger” or “older”) consider these questions:
  7. Younger:  What can you do today to own your faith so that you don’t drift into sin as Solomon did?
  8. Older:  Do you need to grow in patience and understanding for the next generation?  How can you equip and set them up for success?
