Mutual Encouragement
Series: The Ripple Effect
Sermon Notes:
“First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world.”
Romans 1:8 ESV
“For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine.”
Romans 1:11-12 ESV
What is encouragement?
It literally means the action of giving someone courage
- Awaken it
- Call it forth
- Resurrect it
- Inspire it
- Fan it
- Love drives out fear through encouragement
Kingdom encouragement resurrects the God given potential given to a person
“that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
Romans 8
Restoring back to the essence that it was originally designed to be and Jesus expressed that glory, we are in him.
“For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine.”
Romans 1:11-12 ESV
“The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.””
Matthew 13:33 NIV
Encouragement resurrects the gifts and talents that lie dormant within the hearts of people
Become a generous kingdom encourager:
- Overcome reasons why not to encourage (they don't need it; don't want them to get a big head; I have nothing to offer)
- Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance
- Kill sarcasm
“First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you.”
Romans 1:8-10 NIV
ProvWriters Reflection:
| Encouragement |
Shatters walls.
Breaks barriers.
Tends to soft seeds of audacity.
Spurs hearts in captivity.
Stirs sparks of creativity.
The silenced stand up & stand out.
The fearful step forward and serve. Insignificance, now fervent hope.
For the adversary schemes in animosity.
So march, march up to the hills bearing love.
| Kingdom come |
Wealth for the weak, wounded, weary.
The emanation of simple words, uplifted.
