When have you had to show empathy in a difficult situation? How does our empathy differ from the empathy that Jesus shows?
Read Luke 23:31–38. How did Jesus respond through his suffering? How could you explain Jesus' death on the cross to a friend or neighbor who isn't familiar with the story? Why is Jesus' suffering important to this story?
What is the difference between empathy and sympathy? How did you first learn about empathy and was that definition that same as it is today?
